weofodthignen: oldstyle selfie, COVID-19 era (pandemic)

Dusk on the edge of downtown Sunnyvale, November 12: Crows wheeling and starting to roost on now empty office buildings that were built on spec and until the pandemic, were leased by Nokia (left) and Apple (right). In the background, cranes on what was Macy's and its parking lot. (The towers of the cranes were later lighted in purple for the holidays.)

I didn't take many pictures in 2022. Apart from my tribe of feral cats, I took a number documenting the replacement buildings going up where rental housing, the local 24-hours restaurant, and the offices of our small Silicon Valley city had been. And some showing downtown coming back, with the first unmasked people, the new outdoor cafe seating ... and empty storefronts where there had been cafes and a hair salon before that had hung on for a year but not made it through.

Our first little trip, February 21, Los Altos: a very old live oak tree, fenced off for its safety and ours, its big branch lovingly supported.

And I also ranged a bit farther afield on foot. I didn't manage to capture the surprise summer rain, pouring out of gutters downtown and staining the facades of the office buildings. But on a quiet street one day, I found someone had made art in front of their house. (August 10)
