My Shrinking World

I was surprised to find out that there is a history of shadow portraits going back to Pliny the Elder. My shadow self searches for something I lost in 2020. If you have ever looked in the shadows, then you know to be careful or you might find something that is not ready to be found.

I live on this corner, although this is not my house. I’m living with my daughter and her husband for now. The neighbors claim the original owners put the house up for sale as soon as the traffic corner was installed. We have four telephone poles (2 on the north-south road, and two on the east/west), and they are all within inches of the property line. At first, I ignored them, but one can only do that so long before resignation and acceptance set in. Now, I view them as sentinels protecting the castle.

If I am still awake at dawn, the dogs and I like to watch the sunrise over the swimming pool. It’s not as exciting as watching it at the beach, but I’m not alone in learning how to scale back and conserve the amount of space, supplies, and support I need to be comfortable during a pandemic. I have only been away from the house four times since the lockdown last February. That's when my world started to shrink.
