1.
A long pier sticking into the sea at sunset.
This is from our summer holiday. That's Husband sitting out there. We had a summer house for a week somewhere else in Denmark and we were by the coast. (Denmark, if you didn't know, has a lot of coastline. You are never more than a couple hours drive away from one here.) We went down to look at the sunset one evening. I'm quite pleased with how this picture turned out.

A newly planted bed
I made this! Nearly all by myself. Husband helped me a bit with the measuring out and marking off, and he also helped me with some weed barrier cloth (I can't remember what that was actually called) and the layer of bark on top. But I did all the digging and planting myself. The plants were a ready-made selection chosen for biodiversity in the garden and came with a chart for how best to place them. I'm very proud of it and I hope the plants don't all die over winter. (I mean, why would they, I followed all the planting instructions from the garden center, surely they know what they're selling) If it does well, I'm minded to make another.

A grey and white cat
Ending on a sadder note. This is the last photo I ever took of Luna. She died at the end of November and she was 14½ years old then. A good age for a cat. She was the last of the pair we got not too long after we had first moved in together, so it was a bit of an end of an era. She developed some trouble breathing and the medicine we were given didn't work. I don't really think there was anything anybody could have done for her, and given how sick she was and how quickly it went, it was not even a particularly difficult decision. It was simply her time.

That's a lovely sunset and I'm impressed with your planting - I hope it's very successful and everything survives the winter.

Sorry to hear about Luna, she looks like a lovely cat. And yes, a good age, but it doesn't make it any easier.

bookscorpion: This is Chelifer cancroides, a book scorpion. Not a real scorpion, but an arachnid called a pseudoscorpion for obvious reasons. (Default)

I'm looking forward to seeing photos of the garden patch this summer, I hope the flowers will be glorious and appreciated by all the insects!

We live in Shropshire which is about as far from the coast as it's possible to be- just under 100k to the Welsh coast which is nearest.

I'm sorry for your loss. We also had a cat pass away in 2025 and her name was also Luna. (Probably one of the more common cat names.)

That's interesting, I wouldn't have guessed that. It's a nice name though.

It is indeed a nice photo to open with! I hadn't heard of themed gardens sets like that but it's a great idea. I hope it goes well for you.

Luna 💗
